The Ayr Cemetery was formed in 1877 with the purchase of five acres of land on Stanley Street in Ayr, Ontario by a Committee of Volunteers.

Today, the Ayr Cemetery is 12 acres and has over 5,000 burials.

The Ayr Cemetery continues to be operated by a Volunteer Board.


OUR History

Written by Robert Lovett in 1960

Town Hall - Ayr - March 8th, 1877. “At a meeting called to consider the possibility of forming a stock Company the following resolutions were passed, moved by John Watson, seconded by John Wyllie that a company be formed called the Ayr Cemetery Company with a capital stock of Twelve Hundred Dollars and that we organize with that amount. Carried."

The above is an exact copy of the original minutes of the organization meeting of The Ayr Cemetery Company in 1877. At the same meeting Mr. David Goldie was elected President and Mr. John Wyllie secretary-Treasurer.

The original directors were S. Kingsburgh, Jas. Lillico, D. Goldie, J. Watson, D. Guthrie, R.Hall, A. Lillico, W. Oliver and J. Wyllie.
